When I went to the 2008 UEFA Cup final in Manchester, the last thing on my mind was writing a book about Scottish football.
I’d hoped to watch Fiorentina beat Bayern Munich in a game I was fortunate to get a ticket for. As is often the case when I try and plan ahead, both sides lost in the semi-finals, so I went to watch Zenit St Petersburg v Rangers instead. Herein lay my first problem.
As a fair-minded cove, whenever I visit a city for any length of time, I like to work out which football club I would follow...
