IN THE 2011-12 season, Liverpool won the League Cup by beating Cardiff at Wembley, but they also faced defeat there later in the campaign, losing 2-1 to Chelsea in the FA Cup final.
However, a major issue was their Premier League finish. Owners Fenway Sports Group were concerned and unhappy with finishing eighth in the league, their joint-lowest Premier League finish. A change was needed, so they sacked Kenny Dalglish and looked for a new manager.
