I’VE written before about something I call ‘the football bubble’. It’s a simple concept – inside it anything goes. People take leave of their senses, behave abhorrently; dignity is forgotten and respect means nothing. And it’s all fine. Because it’s ‘only football’.
But it’s not. It’s an excuse, and a poor one, for idiotic behaviour that would be unacceptable in any other social setting.
