WHEN a new manager takes over at a club, he often decides to bring in his own staff and dispense with the current back-room team.
Of course, that is his prerogative, but it doesn’t have to be that way.
When Bill Shankly was appointed manager of Liverpool in 1959, having managed Preston North End and Huddersfield Town, he took what would now be the surprise decision to retain all of the Anfield staff.
