ANYONE with a basic knowledge of history knows that in the year 1066 a chap called William the Conqueror landed at Dover with his Norman army and moved onto nearby Hastings where they engaged the native Saxons in a bout of fisticuffs.
The result of this battle was an away win for the Normans and William’s setting up as the new king of England.
